In 2005, SanDisk invented a new standard called microSD. It’s a tiny memory card that can be integrated into dozens of different mobile devices from camera to smartphone, music player or tablet. The first memory cards created were 32 or 64 MB in size. Which was a huge volume for such a tiny chip, in those days.

Just one year later (2006) they then surprised the industry with a 4GB (!) Card with a $100 price tag.

This year, SanDisk unveiled a 1TB microSD memory card. That’s a greater memory than most laptops sold today. The price, by the way, opens at $450, but can go as low as $100.
